"I never got the chance, Dave." He didn't mean it like a chance to bully. "I never got the chance to tell you that the way you look is fine. I wouldn't have treated you any differently." Then again, John is twenty years old. John was fifteen back then and he knew he was capable of saying some really awful stuff. He probably would have been shocked, and unsure of what to think, but he isn't sure what his reaction would have bveen at that age.

John raised his brow. "I just didn't want you to leave angry, or to think I was angry."

"I didn't want to give you the chance to fine out." Dave wasn't sure why this mattered. In the end, Dave was the one who refused and was too stubborn to consider actually letting John see him as a viable option. He was too scared, and it cost him their friendship. In retrospect, it was kind of dumb, but he was also a teen who was self conscious. He's much less self conscious now, if only because he had a fanbase now who rather him be around.

"It was something that happened when we were teens. I didn't think you'd even remember."

"Exactly, but I should have expected that you know. You were always so stubborn." John was just as much at fault for shoving Dave in such an uncomfortable place at such a young age. He didn't mean Dave to feel uncomfortable- but what are you supposed to think at fifteen when your best friend cuts ties with you on your birthday. You think he deserves being shoved there because you're supposed to be best friends and not have secrets.

"Of course I did." He sighs. "I have my old computer still, with all of our chat logs still on it. Day one, to the dooms day that was that night. Everything is archived." John thinks it's silly to admit this.

"I didn't think I'd ever hear from you again, to be honest."

"It was my fault, John." He'd just like to put it out there. "It was your birthday and I basically gave you the shittiest birthday present to date. I don't know why you're making excuses for me."

Oh...that's. Well. He's not sure what to say about that, actually. "But why?" Why did John value all that so highly?

"I'm surprised it didn't happen sooner. I still kept in touch with Jade and Rose. Rose, wasn't really my choice since my bro and her Mom knew each other. Actually, she knew about my condition since she could remember the word and its definition. She was trying to convince me that showing you a photo of me wasn't going to be an end all. Probably should have listened to her."

John doesn't want to blame it on Dave, John really doesn't Dave to blame himself for anything that happened between them a long time ago. They were both grown up now and those things were in the past. But with the past slapping them both in the face right now he wasn't sure what to do.

"I wanted to remember you, okay?" He knows how fucking weird that must sound. To want to remember a guy from a really long time ago that you only knew since you were thirteen. But John has every bit of it archived.

"It's cool man. I don't need a picture now that I've seen you in real life." He chuckled a little. "I think you shouldn't let your looks bother you. I mean, I have buck teeth and the charm of any adult male working in a retail store." He was really making himself look dumb for Dave's sake. See, he does still care.

"I wanted to ask a long fucking time ago. Okay, well the day I met you at the daycare center..." John isn't sure how to say this. "I wanted to confirm that you were you, and we could rekindle our friendship."

This is hitting a whole lot of awkward really fast. Dave couldn't forget John. It was impossible. John was one of the few people whom actually knew how to cheer him up. Losing that was hard. And having John tell you he wanted to remember him...it was endearing and kind of overwhelming.

And seriously. When kids with buck teeth could make fun of you. It didn't really help. Just made him feel more awkward about how he looks. He hasn't been this self conscious about it in awhile.

"How about we talk about this later?"

Oh yeah, that's Dave totally opening his car door and getting out of the car. It's really shitty of him not to give John a straight up answer, but he's also really confused and trying to not freak out too much.

He just can't deal right now. Maybe once he doesn't feel so boxed in, he can consider an actual answer, but the pressure was just too much right now.

John is almost disheartened by the fact that Dave is trying to leave, he watches him go for the handle, watches him put a foot outside of the car. After that John isn't thinking. John really isn't thinking as he gets out of the car faster than Dave and sprints to Dave's side.

John isn't thinking when he pins Dave against the door. John isn't thinking at all right now, he just didn't want Dave to leave so fucking soon. John has his hands on either side of Dave now, effectively pinning him to the car's passenger door. John is staring directly into what would be Dave's eyes if he didn't have his aviators on. John is determined to not let Dave leave until he gets his answer.

So John doesn't think and does something completely irrational. He saw it in a movie once he thinks. He's leaned forward, and he's kissing Dave. Not sure why he's doing it, but he's doing it. He supposes this really isn't Dave's form of make up though.

There's a clatter as the box in Dave's hands drops to the floor. Dave's eyes widen behind his sunglasses as he feels John's breath on his own and John's lips pressed against his. His mind just goes completely blank. Dave doesn't even know whether to panic or not, just that it was taking a long time to process that John Egbert is kissing you against the side of his car.

Of course he doesn't kiss back. That would be really weird. He doesn't move away either though. Dave was just kind of frozen in place, the initial shock still slowly wearing off.

John. What are you doing?

John doesn't really pull away at first, there is seriously no way to just blow this off. Is there? Yeah not likely. So he's just going to actually end the kiss with the soft smack of his own lips. He isn't sure if Dave even did anything during that kiss at all. Probably not, but that was definitely okay.

"Uh.." Yeah he really has no good excuse for this. He just kind of stays where he's at, no real interest in moving at the moment. Just looking down at the parking lot. Wow this is really embarrassing.

Uh Indeed. Well, if you were trying to make this not awkward, you did a really shitty job. Shit just got more awkward.

"Is that how you normally stop people in their tracks, or am I just a special case?" He's glad it's dark, because his face is probably unbelievably red now. He shifts a bit in an awkward manner. He can't even say he didn't like it because suddenly being pinned between John and the side of his car was...well it's a nice fantasy once in awhile.

"I'm pretty sure you didn't do that so you can have me rate your kisses, but I always thought you were into girls. Don't really swing that way or nothin' so..." He kind of just trails off. "You going to keep me here, John? Cause this whole...thing. This is kind of uncomfortable for me in a lot more ways than you are actually aware of."

Shit is more awkward than it was five minutes ago, yes. But it did stop Dave from leaving him right away.

"I think you're a really special case. I really haven't kissed someone in a really long time. You just, you were trying to leave! I saw it in some crappy love film once and it just seemed right." John is being more and more awkward by the second. He wasn't even thinking about this when he did it, he hadn't really thought of the fact that he never really explored things like his stance on sexuality. Jesus christ this was getting more and more awkward.

"Oh, shit.." He was really hoping Dave didn't pop a boner or something from that. Really hoping he didn't, because John is keeping him here until they talk about what they need to talk about.

"You did it because a shitty romcom told you that this was a good idea. Should I remind you it was a romcom? One that was probably a guy chasing after the main female? Do i look like I'm Jennifer Aniston trying to run away from my deep, dark, romantic feelings of how I'm head over heels with the attractive male protagonist?" Oh my god, he's actually babbling at this point. He's a mix between embarrassed, flustered, and just kind of freaking out. "Should I remind you that you just stopped me in what should have been the most romantic way if it were not completely dumb while implying that my hormones are as straight as rainbows?"

He really needs to shut himself up. This is just so dumb. "Oh shit indeed. What do you want? Other than trying to shove your tongue down my throat to apparently stop me from going home."

"It was a romcom, I was just trying to not go directly for that term in general. You might now be into that shit you know? Dude, you aren't Jennifer Aniston. You would be way hotter than her anyways." John is babbling off into another world right now, he was totally complimenting Dave in the attractive light. Yeah, Dave is pretty attractive now that he thinks about it.

"Are you implying that perhaps you swing my way?" Okay John could totally deal with that. He'd only ever kissed a girl, and Dave. Not that he was totally counting Dave's kiss or anything since he didn't kiss back or anything.

This is really getting incredibly silly. "I want to finish the conversation we had in the car. But I didn't want you to feel cornered and well, look what I'm doing."

Dave might have instinctively tried stepping back even if the car was obviously in his way. John did a really good shutting Dave up. He wasn't sure if John was being facetious or if he actually meant it. But Dave definitely looked fairly flustered about it. God, he can feel his ears burning even.

"I'm saying that I like guys and aren't we working a little too fast? Just a few hours ago, I was pretty sure that my life was ending and now you're trying to get in my pants. How about we try and move a little slower. Shit doesn't happen overnight because Lalonde decided to be a sneaky fucking bitch about this all."

He lets out a long sigh. "You have me pinned against your car. I'm sorry, but what were we talking about exactly? What was that about being friends again? Let me shove my tongue into your mouth. This is how I say hello."

John wasn't really being facetious at all. John was actually being quite serious when it came to telling someone how they looked. If he said they looked really attractive, even more so than Jennifer Aniston. Then he wasn't joking. This was not a drill Dave, your ears are burning for the right reasons.

"Dude. I'm not saying it's bad you like guys. Whoa, were we moving somewhere really? Like I'm pretty sure you life isn't ending and like I guess me kissing you is like a really rad birthday present?"

Okay so he isn't sure that he's okay or comfortable with what he just did. He is literally not sure what is running through his head. "Well yes I still want to be friends, and I want to clear up any misunderstandings from back then. But man I really think I just won the award for most awkward friend and everything.."

Dave isn't ever going to get used to that. And he knows from experience that people find him attractive. It's just something he's still trying to come in terms with.

"Kissing would be nice if I had a relationship that lasted longer than a month that didn't end terribly because the other guy was just interested in getting sex." Wow, this is getting TMI. Need to really switch subjects.

"I'm pretty sure we cleared any misunderstandings and if you really want to be real pals, than I guess that's cool. I need more people in my life that doesn't make me want to tear my hair out. Just, let's not do the whole random kissing thing. For now on, I will respond to being told to stop. You kiss your girlfriend, not your guy friend whom you just reconciled with. In case you weren't sure."

But had anyone ever found Dave attractive for the right reasons? He had a great smile, his hair was soft, his lips were a dream. Any guy would be lucky to have such a good guy! Not that John was thinking anything of the sort. Nope, he was totally gonna deny that thought the light of day.

John raised his hand to put it on Dave's cheek, but he denies himself that thought as well and just steps away from Dave. He was really speechless about all of this. It seems he'd really screwed up. But Dave still wanted to be friends and everything?

"I don't have a girlfriend."

Dave kneels down to pick up his dropped box. This was quite the birthday indeed. Mostly, it was the most awkward moment of his life, but whatever.

"Of all the things you could have zoned on, you comment about that. I didn't actually mean you had one or not. But last I checked, you were very adamant about liking cute girls. Not the creepy albino who takes care of your friend's daughter." He's still pretty sure, there's nothing all that attractive about his appearance. "And don't start singing a different tune, because making out with me against your car and then saying you just want to be friends is either the hugest cock block or the worst mixed signal you can give anyone that's as flaming as I am."

John bends down to help, putting items back in it that had fallen. Mostly he was giving himself mixed signals.

"I don't want you to hold your hopes out on me, Dave. Yes I don't want t be friends again." But he didn't want Dave to hope for something more if John couldn't determine his own sexuality. To be frank, he'd only ever kissed one girl. That was probably his third or fourth kiss over with anyone.

"Don't read it as a mixed signal. I'm pretty sure I just confused myself. I'm really sorry." John will watch Dave walk home when he decides this conversation is over. He will make sure Dave arrives safe from a safe distance.

There wasn't much in it. It was a lot of packaging popcorn, but it looked like there were headphones inside the box.

"I'm fine with being friends. Just don't make out with me again. Sounds like a pretty easy thing to do. Keep it platonic, right?" Dave doesn't even really try dating anymore. It usually doesn't end well, so it's better just not trying.

There's a slight eyebrow raised over the dark frames. "You should check yourself before doing stupid shit." He might have smiled a bit. "Do you always just do shit because you see it in a movie? Because I've seen people jump from bridges, but I really hope you don't try pulling that because you saw it in a movie."

John wouldn't delve into the purpose of the box. Not right now anyways.

"Right, definitely no making out again. Very easy." He nodded justly and almost defeated. He didn't know what to think about what he just did- still. He wasn't in the dating ring. He was available, but not. Who would want him anyways?

"Not all the time, I just thought that was going to be the best way to stop you from leaving right away. Shocking you was likely my best tactic? But i had no idea you were actually.." John is gonna stop himself there. He had a notion that Dave was gay, why didn't he believe this notion.

"But yeah, I won't jump off a bridge dude."

"Glad to know we figured out the line between platonic and romantic. Learn something new everyday." Now he's just teasing John.

"You can rest easy to know that it worked. I'm definitely not leaving at the moment, but you kind of just pinned me against your car. It's kind of hard to just up and leave when your ways out is either between the car and a person." Dave pursed his lips lightly. "You ain't a homophobe right? Or is saying gay too scary for you?" He doesn't think John is actually a homophobe, but he'd hate to think the other couldn't handle saying the words even.

"Good, because I can't swim, so I can't go being a hero trying to save your sorry ass."

"Yeah, totally." He tries to laugh a little, he knew Dave was trying joke with him now. He hoped anyways.

John moves to give Dave a little room. "Considering i'm questioning my own sexuality at the moment, no I'm not a homophobe. I never have been." John can honestly say he never had any gay friends, but he didn't actively make fun of them either. that was just like someone making fun of him for being a dork. "I accept fully that you are gay, and that's cool with me." they were still going to be best bros no matter what. John knew it.

"then why don't I teach you how to swim, it's not hard really."

"Sorry for being incredibly irresistible. I'll try to town it down so guys like you don't get stuck wondering whether to swing for the other team or not." Not that he actually considered himself irresistible. "Oh cool. I accept you fully for being sexually confused." This is a dumb conversation. Why are they having it?

"Because I'm not interested. I'm not really into swimming. I'm as pasty as you can get. If there were anything such as pigment, it basically ollied outtie faster than a fat kid on candy. I burn anyways. The weather here is convenient enough that I can wear long sleeves and pants all the time so I don't have to apply as much sunscreen to go out." It was a bit of a nuisance for all the precautions he had to take for being albino.

"Thanks man, great to know I have support in this difficult time trying to sort out my brain." Wow Dave, stop being so right. He is right about being incredibly irresistible and John is totally blushing at that and will deny it every which way.

"Dude, it's really easy. One day, just you and me. We'll go swim in YMCA kiddie pool or something." He laughs a little, the YMCA was probably the only place with a heated pool anyways so it would be the perfect warm, and un-sunlit place to go for Dave if they were ever going to get him swimming.
