Your name is Dave Strider. Usually you'd start this by saying how cool you are, but that's not actually true. You aren't actually all that cool nor do you actually care. You're old enough to have graduated college but you never went. You just can't really do this people thing, which is why it's so surprising as to how you got your job. You're a daycare worker at some place in the richer area of the city. Kids love you. You have no idea why. It's really weird, but you're not going to try and make a big deal out of it. You get paid well after all. Even though it's your main income, you actually do fairly well with your website. You DJ and you release original music on it and it makes pretty good money. Enough that if you ever lost your job, it would still support you.

You kind of grew up as this really tall, skinny shit. It's your damn metabolism and the only reason you aren't as skinny as you are is because your Bro made sure of it and you actually work out when you have time. That doesn't help with you being paler than any Twilight vampire and being assaulted by freckles. Also your hair kind of freaks people out or everyone thinks you dye it or something. Whatever.

It so happens that you're waiting for the last kid to get picked up. You're still trying to figure out how on Earth Rose somehow became a mom, but whatever. Apparently someone else is picking the kid up today and he's waiting for that person to do so. Seriously, it would be nice if they weren't so late.

Dave, don't say that. Nothing sank. Nothing is wrong with letting yourself be in a relationship where someone will try their hardest to make you happy.

[He was running out of excuses. He didn't think John would be this stubborn.] Why are you trying so hard?

I don't know that. But I know I really enjoy being around you.

[He rolls his eyes.] Because I really like you, doofus.

This isn't some dumb joke is it? Rose didn't put you up to this did she?

[He is skeptical of you.]

Not at all. Rose has absolutely nothing to do with this. I came over on my own free will and I'm telling you about how much I like you on my own free will.

[He is a prankster. Not a person who would lie.]

[Dave sighs and doesn't say anything for a moment.]

Saturday. Seven in the evening.

[longwinded]

[He kisses the back of Dave's hand. Going over to get two plates from the cabinet. He was going to fix the plates. Because he was gonna be a good house guest now.]

Sounds great. I'm looking forward to it.

[knightime]

[If John quickly glances at Dave, he might have caught the glimpse of Dave breaking into the most sincere smile as he looks at the back of his hand. The spot where John just kissed it. Yeah, he's trying real hard not to be charmed, and failing miserably.]

[longwinded]

[John makes the plates with everything Dave cooked, and he can just go grab some chips from the pantry no biggie.]

Is it okay if I compliment you again?

Why do you insist on complimenting me?

[Dave really is playing hard to get.]

Because you deserve to feel good about yourself.

[And because John is charming. Trying to woo you as well.]

Assuming I don't. I'm quite fine being a creepy albino, dude. Just eat your chicken man.

[Fine, fine. He'll eat his chicken. Which is good, really good.]

Okay, well then I'll compliment your cooking instead.

[Dave just sits across from him, and starts tearing the skin off articulately. Oh right. Weird eating habits.]

Gotta survive somehow. Living off instant noodles gets tiring.

[Just another thing that John is going to admire about Dave. He thinks it is literally the cutest thing.]

It's better than eating nothing because you can't afford it.

I thought you worked, dude?

[Dave tears all the chicken off his bone before eating the pieces. He also mashes up his potatoes. CAN'T BE TAMED.]

I do. But it doesn't pay me enough to always have a meal. Target isn't exactly an A plus job.

[John just digs into that chicken, and takes meticulous bites of the potatoes. THEY ARE A WORK OF ART.]

How much are you paying for rent?

[He pauses and puts his forkful of potatoes down onto his plate.]

450 a month, and that doesn't leave me a lot for anything else. Since my car needs gas and I have to keep my appearance up for my job.

[He likes smelling nice.]

I have an open room.

[He's not implying anything. Nope.]

[John's brain might have literally just performed the longest keysmash in history.]

It's cheaper than your place.

[He's totally just poking at his food.] I had to kick out the last person staying with me, but I haven't bothered looking for another roommate since I'm able to cover the full price.

Just so I know what not to do in the event I move in, what did this roomie of yours do?

I'm not going to keep living with some asswipe ex-boyfriend. I'm the main tenant and he could go fucking live with his stupid slut of a girlfriend.

Good reason to kick him out then. [Dave. John is frowning now. He went back to a girlfriend? That's just shitty.]
