CHARACTER INFORMATION
Name: Dave Strider
Age: Thirteen
Subject taught: N/A
Canon:
Like his original self, Dave is the ectobiology results from Sis Strider (Except Sis is now a Sis and not a Bro) and Mom Lalonde (Don't ask how this was even possible man. I don't even know). Sis Strider found him along with Rose's dead pony in a crater due to a meteor. This history stays in tact like Dave's original self. However, the difference is as Sis raises Dave, there's a glaring difference. Dave cannot speak.
Dave is still raised basically the same way. Sis, however, does put in the extra effort to learn sign language along with helping Dave learn it himself as Dave grows up with him. Although they probably stick to communicating through text more often then not, Sis makes sure Dave stays on top of knowing how to do it, and probably by extension, making sure he remembers it himself. The Strider household stays relatively the same otherwise.
That is, until school becomes a problem. Dave, for the most part, isn't particularly bothered through his young years of Preschool, Kindergarten, and part of Elementary school. For the most part, he doesn't care too much for it. He's quiet (for obvious reasons) and isn't the type of kid that other small kids would talk to. What's the point of talking to a kid who can't talk back and just does strange things via his hands? He isn't very fond of it, mostly just because he doesn't really want to actually go to school. But it wouldn't even be remotely cool if he gave up on school before he even started. School just gets a little lonesome when all the kids are screaming and running around. You can run around, but you can scream like everyone else. And who wants to play with a kid with red eyes? Red eyes were monster eyes right? Still, most little kids didn't seem to care.
It's during his elementary school years that Dave kind of starts noticing the huge gap between his peers and himself. He's always worn the shades that Sis gave him. Never in class, since the teachers always made him take them off anyways. It's when they have to get the school to agree that having them was for his health and eyesight. To some extent, it was true. He got less stares that way and it did help in terms of health. But Dave found quickly that he was just what the doctors ordered when it comes to bully material. He couldn't raise his voice. His eyes were different and that made him strange to some others. Perhaps Texas was a little more backwards then one would hope. It didn't help that Dave was openly very liberal about his views. Sis made sure of that. He became a target for bullies, getting often in scuffles and getting scathing words.
Sis had been training Dave since he was able to train, but the increasing activity made Sis train Dave harder. Sure, Dave would be twice as sore from home and school, but it would be for the better.
And to an extent, it did. Dave didn't have to be scared of bullies and he never backed down from a fight. Hell, if people didn't know that they started it, it seemed more like Dave was beating on them. Dave had little to no friends at school, and he was alright with that. He was alright with that through Middle School too. At this point, Dave's presence caused a flurry of mixed emotions. There were kids that admired his nonchalant attitude towards how people perceived him. Some think he's an assholes. Others still wanted to pick on him. But he didn't need to hang around with kids who didn't like him for who he was. Hell, he had no interest with the general student population. He was happy with what he had. Because he had Jade, John, and Rose online to talk to whenever he goes home from school.
He keeps close connections with the three. This stays the same as his original version.
He also participates in SBURB with the three.
Most of the SBURB events are the same overall. Because most of the conversation are done via text, Dave didn't really have to worry about John, Rose, or Jade knowing that he's mute. Even when he meets the Alternate Dave that later becomes Davesprite, he's able to communicate with the other fine. It was practically talking to himself anyways. Dave goes through the session like normal. He spends a lot of his time going through the stable time loops and doing the same things his original self had went through.
However, Dave eventually meets up with Jade to help her with the frogs and creating the next universe, with the knowledge that they'd eventually fight Jack and he'd die. It's the first time he'll come clean with telling them he's actually mute. Of course, it's not a problem with Jade (she lives with her space dog, she has no right to say anything man). So things are fine while they're collecting frogs. Then Dave gets killed by Jack and meets Rose on Derse and has to also come clean with Rose. That's a little more awkward with Rose being the crazy psychoanalyzing broad she is. But she doesn't have any problems with it as far as Dave knows. Of course, talking through some device while standing right next to each other is kind of weird. But hey, he's used to doing that.
Anyways. After chasing after Rose and the moon (after lamely being knocked out by a ball of yarn), Dave and Rose go on their suicide mission. After the explosion, they achieve God Tier and arrive at the Green Sun.
OU!Dave's history can be found here for any details that were left out concerning Dave's importance in the Session.
Canon point: End of Act Five, right after achieving God Tier
Personality:
The first thing you need to know is that Dave is your stereotypical cool kid. He's the type of kid you would see at school and who would be considered popular (if not for his oddities that causes him to become grade-A bully material). No seriously, this kid is so damn cool that he makes the hottest Summers feel like a cool Fall with his coolness. Ok, we're getting off track.
But Dave's coolness seems to make it so he's calm and collected in any given situation. He stays level-headed even in the strangest of situations. Such examples would be SBURB or the apparent destruction of their world. He didn't seem at all bothered, but took to getting into action as soon as he could. Even the thought of time travel and having multiple versions of himself running about didn't seem to bother him so much. He was more invested in actually getting things done. This makes Dave a reliable guy. He was able to help Jade understand everything when she entered the realm. But just because Dave is usually level-headed doesn't mean he doesn't lose his cool. Although it seems that he has a high tolerance before freaking out, Dave has showed himself losing his cool. It's just, it isn't until he's lost his cool that he flies completely off the proverbial handle. Such an example was when a pile of puppets fall on Dave and he completely freaks out over it or starts to be extremely melodramatic about things. It's most likely due to looking stupid, as Dave strives so hard to be cool, looking dumb would probably bother him a lot. Usually, he keeps his nonchalant attitude in check most of the time.
However, this is where his personality changes a bit. Dave is a pretty cool kid, even if he's also a good target for being bullied. His nonchalant nature translates to how he is in person. It's because of the teasing and bullying and Sis raising him to toughen up that he's got his feet on the ground. Because of this, Dave is more stubborn about things and he doesn't back down when it's important. He probably has trouble backing down in general. All those years where he had to stand up to people bigger and stronger then him made a rather miserable childhood, but it also helped him grow. He's less influenced by people as he has a stronger understanding of what he wants and who he wants to be. He doesn't particularly strive to try and impress anyone and he's comfortable with himself for the most part. He knows his shortcomings and he's aware of what he gets teased for isn't one of them.
But Dave can get incredibly insecure at the same time. It's almost irrational at times, but for as strong as he makes himself to be, he still is dependent on people to make him feel comfortable. Unfortunately, he's also extremely dependent on not just people, but material items. It's not to say that he needs them in a more "I just want it that bad" way, but that he literally has to rely on technology and material items to be able to function normally in a society where conversing via talking is a must. Most people don't know how to do Sign Language, so trying to sign to people who don't even know it is kind of pointless. He gets by easy enough using text or writing and the occassional signing, but sometimes he lets things get to him. There's only so much teasing one can take before snapping. Snapping might either make Dave lose his shit or cause him to vent in more physical ways. For the most part, people he don't know who judges him off the bat are people who he tends to ignore or think very lowly of. However, people that he's closed to, he admires them quite a bit. He holds high respect for them in some shape or form, even if they usually still get his usual antagonizing nature. But it's these people that he becomes insecure about. For Sis, he already knew he had his acceptance, but it was different when Dave made friends with John, Jade, and Rose. While behind a screen, he didn't have to tell them. It wasn't important. Any other type of contact outside of text, he could easily brush off for other reasons. Meeting them in person though, was something else. Suddenly he had to come clean and make it know to them that he couldn't speak. His insecurity around this is strong, since he had little to no friends, and the thought of being judged or unacceptable to them was a huge gamble. At least to him it was. He tries to rationalize his thoughts or remember that they're good kids who wouldn't do that. Still, he sometimes expects everyone to react the same way to him.
Although John isn't aware until he meets/talks to Davesprite (this is after my canon point currently), Rose and Jade had no problems with his inability to speak. Because of that, Dave grew a little more comfortable with it. He doesn't feel as constricted knowing that they're aware and have to cover his tracks in any way or form (too bad he loses this memory oops).
Dave is also rather brilliant. Of course some may be annoyed with how he thinks, but Dave seems to understand the mechanics of things rather swiftly. He has shown this since the beginning, having his modus already set and having one of the most advanced sylladexes at that time. He also uses a higher Pesterchum version then John was using. His ability to learn the mechanics of things quickly really helps Jade out for example. John, who was Jade's original server player, could not continue that role at some point. Dave had Jade deploy the INTELLIBEAM LASERSTATION and copy the server discs so that he could become her new server player. From that point on, he deployed the equipment she needed. Equipment that were highly upgraded, since he was farther ahead in the game then she was. Dave is one of the only kids who seemed to invest himself fully in the mechanics, being the one responsible for actually connecting their session to the troll session. Although the trolls had contacted them before they actually started the session, Dave had sent a hefty amount of Boondollars to the trolls, making them aware of their existence. His fetch modi is also based off a data structure type and he seems to be fairly knowledgeable of captchaloguing in general. He's also actually quite smart academically. Because he didn't really care to socialize, he spent more time training and actually being studious. Dave is really on top of things and actually knows a lot more then he lets on. He knows a lot of basic things that most people should know, but also a lot of things that are kind of obscure. He's had a lot of time on his hands and the internet to pass the time. Surprisingly, he actually excels academically and physically. Self teaching himself what he could get his hands on or doing his schoolwork and having Sis train him.
A big part of Dave is that Dave likes to be ironic. Maybe he has to be ironic. Either way, he's constantly doing and saying things for the sake of being ironic. Such cases is wearing the shades he received and drawing ironic comics, although a lot of this is also influenced by Sis, who he respects and highly regards. The gifts he's sent his friends before are supposed to be ironic, although there's a more sincere feeling to them then he lets off.
Dave's attitude can be a bit of an annoyance. It makes sense. The guy likes to ruffle feathers and obviously enjoys doing it. His attitude sometimes makes it seem like he doesn't actually care or that he belittles people. He can almost seem heartless with how he casually shrugs things off. Dave likes to antagonize his friends sometimes by doing or saying shit that causes them to roll their eyes at him. Despite that, he's a good kid and he obviously cares for those he cares for. He obviously regards them well or he wouldn't take the time or day to contact them personally, and he's shown to care. He obviously shows that he regards John highly, as the other easily influences his own thoughts and he sometimes goes to Rose about some of the anxieties he has sometimes. He also seems to speak to Rose quite often, even if he finds her annoying sometimes. He even seems to find Jade fine, even if the way she types is usually a target for cool people to pick on. Examples would be the Doomed timeline where John gets himself killed. His alternate self had threatened Terezi to back off from John, since it was her fault it happened. Another moment is when Rose and Dave are deciding who was to go on the suicide mission and Dave volunteered to.
In person, Dave is surprisingly very physical. What he lacks in speech, he makes up in body language. Sometimes he'll over exaggerate things to make sure that the other person is well aware what he means. Body language is extremely important to him since he keeps the nonchalant attitude up most of the time and rarely expresses himself through his face. He likes physical contact and being close to people that he cares about. He strives on being able to articulate himself through anything that his body can express. He basically uses his body as a type of temple and he does a good job in expressing himself without the need of being verbal. It's also because he can't talk that he might come off as a little overbearing or affectionate. He can't just say "I like you" or something along those lines. He'll do other things like hold your hand or bump shoulders. Anything to get his point across. Sometimes he'll even hug if he's comfortable enough for it. This ends up being a double edged sword though. Because Dave also tends to stray away from people that he doesn't care for, and he sometimes kind of brushes over people without a second thought. So he rarely actually gets to get this intimate with other people. It actually frustrates him a bit, but he also doesn't make an effort to change it either. He also can get rather violent once provoked. He's used to getting into scuffles or fights, and when he gets angry, he lashes out physically. It's not like he can tell them off, so he has to resort in expressing his anger or annoyance in the most obvious way possible. Unfortunately, that means reacting through physical contact.
Dave is also very artistic. He can't talk or sing, but he can indulge in music. He's a little obsessed with music, listening and knowing countless bands. Some known and some more obscure. He also likes to mix his own beats and make his own music. A song doesn't have to be lyrical to evoke emotion. He also likes to do photography, although this is something he isn't usually as open about. He did have a makeshift dark room set-up, but he usually doesn't actually have a stellar camera available to always take photos. Still, he'll indulge himself in anyway possible. He isn't a very good artist, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Haha...no. He just makes those shitty comics to be ironic. He actually doesn't care to get better at being an artist. He's content with his music and photography. Sometimes he'll write out lyrics or sick rhymes, but he often doesn't share them with anyone. He has no reason to if he can't even say them.
He lives for the moment more then he lives for what's to come. He's learned quickly that spending your life worrying isn't really going to get you anywhere. And with the help of being in charge of time, he's learned that time is always too short and you should take advantage of it. It's a little unsettling for him, the thought of being so mortal that anything could kill him, but he's learned to shrug it off or at least expertly ignore that nagging feeling. Dave appreciates what he can get and has, although he might also have a strange uncanny want to always try and preserve it too, hence his attraction to collecting dead things that are oddly preserved.

Dave glanced around him for a moment. He only vaguely knew where he was. He wasn't the type to get lost anyways, but he kind of just wandered to find a quiet place away from everyone. He had a book. Well two books with him. One of them was open, but frankly, he wasn't even reading it. He was watching people from where he was sitting, dark shades making it impossible to tell where he was looking.
He didn't particularly hate it here. He didn't like it either. His mind was still on other things. The session. What happened anyways? Were his friends doomed to some terrible failure now that he was gone?
It bothered him honestly. That he had no real recollection of why or how he got here and it seriously was going to keep bothering him. Not only that, but he knew he was missing memories. He doesn't know why, either. But he knows. Certain things that should be easy for him to remember escape him.
He watched a few more people walk passed him. He made no indication that he noticed them.
Dave had done nothing to really converse in his new surroundings. He didn't mind staying on the network, hell, he was pretty loud on it. But he wouldn't approach anyone. He didn't know whether they would bother with him or not. It was different back home. He knew that he at least had a few friends who'd always talk to him. He had his sister too. But not here. And so he kept to himself. His fingers twitched. But he wanted to reach out. Dave knew better though. He usually made the first move, but in a place like this, he thought it better to just wait until someone brings up the courage to talk to him. Dave knew what type of presence he let off.
It wouldn't be worth his time if people weren't even willing to approach him. He just hoped that someone would eventually.
He frowned a bit before shutting the book and getting to his feet.
Fuck it. He was Dave fucking Strider. If he wanted to say hi to someone, then he will. He doesn't have to wait for some sorry fuck to get their stupid feet out of the kiddie pool and into the big eight feet deep adults pool. If they had problems with him, he'd shrug it off like usual. He had better things to do then try to garner the acceptance anyways.
But making an effort will at least get him started somewhere. Dave shoves the books back into his bag and casually makes his way down to the closest group of kids that look his age.
Note: Also willing to be a player if accepted.
